“My shelves aim to invite the user to interact with its form. They utilize various ‘play signals’ that engage the user to touch, feels, and react to the object”, says Jiyoung Seo, a design student at HDK School of Design and Crafts in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The Catalyst is a little shelf with a flap of silicon to keep books in place. Furthermore, Jiyoung’s creation can also be used as a bookmark by slotting a book over the flap. (mais…)

Writable

The Chinese designer, Tianyu Xiao, has raised an interesting question: how can a piece of furniture make people more communicative? In order to come up with a fine response, he conceived the Writable, a fun and interactive table which allows notes to be easily written onto the surface.
Three flip panels at the centre house chalkboards on the underside with a chalk discreetly held in place. According to Xiao, “his table creates a new way of communicating and enhances the relationship between people, offering an array of different possibilities for users to utilize it in a way that suits them”. Revolve Watch

Conceived by the Russian studio, Podvaal, the Revolve Watch Bracelet is a creative new concept arising in the always interesting and fertile intersection of design and fashion. Three individual bracelets allow hours, minutes and seconds to swirl freely around the user’s wrist. The watch can be solar power operated (LED display), battery operated or fully mechanic. Searching for the limits of wood, a young Dutch designer has made the most of the interplay between rigidity and flexibility to conceive a lovely range of stools with flexible seats created by cutting slits into their solid wood tops.
Carolien Laro – a graduated student at the Arts Academy St. Joost and Amsterdam Wood and Furniture College – has invested hundreds of hours to develop the Spring Wood collection, which includes a three-seater bench and three stools, one on wheels, one without and another with folded steel legs, all with pliable wooden seats. Book Light

Seeking a comfortable, harmless for the eyes and discreet way of reading at night or in a place with poor illumination without disturbing others, the Russian designer, Mikhail Stawsky, came up with this clever idea.
The Book Light is a conceptual bookmark made from a solid translucent plastic body with integrated LEDs. The reader can set the illumination intensity using touch controls. Furthermore, the ingenious device is rechargeable, fulfilling then the endless pleasure of reading. (mais…)
Less is More

As stated by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe – German architect widely regarded as one of the pioneering masters of Modern architecture – “less is more”. Guided by minimalism, Mies created an influential 20th century style, founded on extreme clarity and simplicity.
Following his footsteps, the multi-disciplinary design consultancy, Antrepo, has come up with this interesting experiment called Minimalist Effect in the Maximalist Market, which consists in developing conceptual packaging design for well-known supermarket products by stripping back the existing graphics in stages.
