Abebe Bikila (August 7th, 1932 – October 25th, 1973) was a two-time Olympic marathon champion from Ethiopia. In “Rome 1960” the shoe sponsor had few pairs left when Bikila went to try them out and he ended up with a pair that didn’t fit comfortably, so he couldn’t use them. A couple of hours before the race, the Ethiopian marathonist decided to compete barefoot, the way he had trained for the race. Moral of the story: he was the first black African in history to win a gold medal in the Olympics. Four years later, he repeated his heroic accomplishment at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Domino Clocktm by Carbon Design Group
Challenging assumptions and immediate associations one can make about familiar objects and everyday things, the Seattle-based product development consultancy, Carbon Design, has stylishly played with these obvious expectations in the Domino Clock project. This new and lively way to tell time is fruit of Carbon’s “Passion Projects” which are developed to fuel the creative spark.
The Domino Clock has completely repurposed the iconic set of collective gaming pieces by taking this well-known object out of its normal context and giving it new capabilities, allowing it to function as something quite different, said Joe Sullivan, industrial designer at the group. (mais…)
Decanterlights

Conceived by the Londoner, Lee Broom, the Decanterlights are elegant chandelier-style lights imagined as part of the overall interior for the bar and restaurant design “Coquine”. After their release in May 2010, Broom decided to build on the concept and develop a full collection to be sold globally.
Made from crystal decanters sourced from antique markets and vintage shops, the Decanterlights refinedly create a warm and charming atmosphere wherever they are hung – in clusters or individually as a majestic centrepiece. (mais…)
