Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form of energy, such as using turbines to make electricity, mills for mechanical power, pumps for pumping water or drainage, or sails to propel ships. Wind energy, as an alternative to fossil fuels, is plentiful, renewable, widely distributed, clean, produces no greenhouse gas emissions during operation, and already represents about 2% of worldwide electricity usage. Catalyst Shelf

“My shelves aim to invite the user to interact with its form. They utilize various ‘play signals’ that engage the user to touch, feels, and react to the object”, says Jiyoung Seo, a design student at HDK School of Design and Crafts in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The Catalyst is a little shelf with a flap of silicon to keep books in place. Furthermore, Jiyoung’s creation can also be used as a bookmark by slotting a book over the flap. (mais…)

Ausgebrannt by Kaspar Hamacher
German for “burnt out”, Ausgebrannt is the name of the project run by the Belgian designer, Kaspar Hamacher, who makes stools from wooden logs by setting them on fire. The main idea consists in stripping bark from the logs then burning away certain sections to create legs.
Hamacher’ stools were displayed on circular landings at the Biologiska museum in Stockholm as part of “20 Designers at Biologiska”. (mais…)

Guided by the main principle that “designing for failure is essential for success”, the design consultancy, Continuum, has created this conceptual packaging for a single cigarette. The 1Z – the name is a reference to “loosies” – takes into consideration that smokers who are trying to quit are constantly susceptible to setbacks. Therefore, the idea is to avoid this setback to turn into a whole pattern of failure, that is, one cigarette rather than a whole pack and so on. (mais…)
Rocketman Concept

The British MINI has just launched the conceptual Rocketman at the International Geneve Motor Show. Wide-opening doors and an adjustable luggage compartment that can be adapted by pulling out a drawer at the back of the car characterize the guiding principle of this project. A response to the requirements of mobile lifestyles in the big cities of the future, the 3+1-seater with 3 doors features integrated fibre-optics that illuminates the interior and a glass roof, which is imprinted with the Union Jack. Rhubarb

French designer Emma Marga Blanche has conceived these pleated lamps made from folded polypropylene and fan outwards from their bases, creating a cluster of precise but organic forms when positioned together. Called Rhubarb, the lamps were presented as part of 20 Designers at Biologiska, which she co-curated with Fredrik Färg during Stockholm Design Week. (mais…)
