by Mike Stilkey

The American artist, Mike Stilkey, has come up with a whole new possibility for the use of books. Making use of a mixture of paint, coloured pencil and varnish, Mr. Stilkey creates charming portraits – with a shadowy personality à la Tim Burton – utilizing hundreds of books as his original canvases.

Check the results of this curious technic and get to know the work of this inventive artist who has demystified the good old saying that “one can not judge a book by its cover”. (mais…)

The Black Box project by Van Heertum Design

Thanks to Sven Spierings for both the suggest and the support.

One of the giants of the paperboard business, the Swedish company, Iggesund Paperboard – member of the Holmen Group and Europe’s leading manufacturer of high quality virgin fibre paperboard for use in the packaging and graphics sectors – has issued an exclusive challenge to designers or design teams with a proven track record experience in developing and producing complex packaging and print projects.

What will happen if you give a designer a tool with which he or she can do whatever they like? The only condition being that they make use of the unique properties of Invercote – Iggesund’s solid bleached board. The idea behind this campaign is actually quite simple: celebrate creativity as the ability to generate innovative ideas and bring them from thought into reality. The launch of Iggesund’s Black Box project Thinking inside the box was held few days ago, November 23rd, in Paris, in the fabulous settings of the Cercle Suedois/Swedish Club in conjunction with the famous Les Places d’Or – design and luxury packaging exhibition. Besides its normal function of delighting the world with a wide range of flavors and aromas, the Brazilian painter and illustrator, Marcelo Daldoce, has given this traditional beverage another finality. The artist explores the diverse tonalities of different types of wine and skilfully uses it as some kind of ink. The process consists in diluting the beverage with water to achieve a result similar to aquarelle.

Enjoy all tastes and fragrances that stylishly exhale from these fine paintings… Cheers! (mais…)
