Packaging is a key element to comprehend the stages of evolution of the so-called “american way of life” during the 20th century. A single object agglutinates some of the essential principles that contributed to build and to sell this prefabricated dream, like consumerism, stylized design of products, mass media, graphic design, popular culture design and corporate identity.

Sovietic packaging

The establishment of the Soviet regime deflagrated the construction of a new Russia. The industrial firms had become then, under control of the state; thus, art as well as consumption, were no longer developed just for the royalty. All material goods and means of production belonged to the community as a whole. Projects should be redesigned to serve the ideal of building a fair and magnificent Russia. The artists, from solitary creators with subjective and individual approaches, became interpreters of state goals and “spokesmen” of a powerful public propaganda. (mais…)
