Samsung Proxima by Johan Loekito

So necessary, so smart, so compact, so small, so easy for us to lose track of them. Mobile phones are always in spotlight, accumulating more and more functions and innovative applications; consequently having a greater importance and influence over one’s life, being almost impossible then, to dissociate the person from his or her portable phone.

Aware of that, the recently graduated industrial designer, Johan Loekito (California State University, Long Beach), conceived a watch phone – collaborative project with Samsung Design America, Fall 2009 – that assures to create an efficacious connection between the product and its user.

The concept, named Samsung Proxima, is OLED wristwatch and phone at the same time. The wristband and the phone itself are detachable and, according to the device description, “when the range between the units increases, a proximity sensor will emit a warning tone, or vibrate, to remind the user to not forget the phone”.

Proxima arises as an essential product for the ones who find themselves irremediably attached to technology. Are you?
