Sovietic packaging

The establishment of the Soviet regime deflagrated the construction of a new Russia. The industrial firms had become then, under control of the state; thus, art as well as consumption, were no longer developed just for the royalty. All material goods and means of production belonged to the community as a whole. Projects should be redesigned to serve the ideal of building a fair and magnificent Russia. The artists, from solitary creators with subjective and individual approaches, became interpreters of state goals and “spokesmen” of a powerful public propaganda.

Therefore, the result in packaging design was a boom of creativity, with great intellectual contribution by the avant-garde artists. In the works, the plane was not static anymore, arising as a field for the combination of strong graphic elements, like highlighted colours, geometric forms and dynamic diagonal lines, colliding on the two-dimensional level. That was the beginning of a clash that would perdure for decades to define which side would control the bigger portion of power or capacity to influence the rest of the world.
